Should I charge my EV to 80% or 100?? | iFlowPower

Is it better to charge an electric car to 80 or full?

For new energy vehicles, the most important component is the power battery, charging is a topic that is inseparable from the electric car, and the development of the power battery for new energy vehicles, is always the core component, then the electric car is charged to 80% good or full?

As a matter of fact, new energy vehicles do not need to be fully charged every time; charging as you go and shallow charging and discharging is the best way to go. Especially for daily urban commuting or short-distance travelling, you only need to meet the mileage required for travelling, and at the same time charge regularly to avoid over-discharging.

Continuous charging to 100 per cent promotes the growth of lithium metal tendrils, or dendrites, which can lead to short circuits. More commonly, however, lithium ions lose circulation due to a side reaction in the electrolyte. This is usually due to the higher temperatures generated by the stored energy when the battery is charged to its ultimate capacity.

However, it is not all the time discouraged to charge your EV to 100%. If you need to use your EV for long journeys, or if there has been a period of time when there has been no charging station available, occasionally charging your EV to 100 per cent will not cause any noticeable problems. The problem arises when you consistently charge to 100%.

It is generally recommended to charge your electric vehicle (EV) battery between 20% and 80% to help extend the battery's lifespan and maximize its performance. However, if you are planning a longer trip and need more range, charging up to 90% occasionally should not have a significant impact on the battery's overall health.

Additionally, it's good practice to avoid frequently charging your EV battery to very low levels, as this can also contribute to premature aging of the battery. Keeping the battery level between 20% and 80% can help avoid excessive stress on the battery cells and maintain optimal battery health.
