Vanadium Energy Storage – 1

The popularity of new energy industry makes lithium carbonate, the raw material of lithium batteries, a "white oil". In battery technology, another technical route "vanadium electricity" is also quietly blooming.



In mid February, "national project of 200MW / 800mwh Dalian liquid flow battery energy storage and peak shaving power station" officially announced that the construction of the main project has been completed. The power station is the first 100MW large-scale national demonstration project of electrochemical energy storage in China. It will also become the largest all vanadium flow battery energy storage project in the world. It is expected to complete grid connection commissioning in June this year.



What is the concept of the world's largest battery energy storage project? The power station has an energy storage capacity of 400mwh, equivalent to 400000 kwh. According to the average monthly power consumption of a family of 200 degrees, it can supply more than 2000 families for one month. As a peak shaving power station, it can alleviate the peak shaving pressure of local power grid and make up the power demand in time.



Energy storage is the core of the new energy industry revolution. In the context of "double carbon", the proportion of coal-fired power use is bound to decline, but new energy such as wind power and solar power have been facing the characteristics of discontinuity, instability and uncontrollability for a long time. Therefore, how to better store these energy sources has become the key to the use of green electricity.



From the perspective of energy storage structure, China still focuses on pumping and power storage at present - when power consumption is low, water is pumped from the lower reservoir to the upper reservoir through electricity, and then water is released for power generation at the peak of power consumption. In 2020, the proportion of pumped storage in China will reach nearly 90%, and the second is electrochemical energy storage, including lithium-ion battery, lead-acid battery, liquid flow battery and other technologies.
