Energy management manufacturers Eaton and TES carry out battery recycling cooperation

Author :Iflowpower – Portable Power Station Supplier

With the increase in the demand for lithium-ion battery energy storage system, battery recycling provides a sustainable and economic effective measures for meeting demand. This is the goal of the new partnership established between Eaton and Technology Lifecycle Services Company TES. Partnerships will ensure that TES provides battery recycling solutions, while Eaton will provide its energy storage customer base.

Eaton's energy storage customers, if the battery life is close to the end, will be recycled in the TES recycling facilities in Singapore, which is enabled in March 2021. TES Sustainable Battery Solutions THOMASHOLBERG, Vice President, Tomasholberg, said: "Lithium-ion battery demand surges, leading to the shortage of raw materials for battery production industry and the impact of electronic waste management, these two increasingly severe challenge. We need to adopt a firm and collective approach to make meaningful progress in solving these complex and multi-faceted issues.

"This Singapore factory combines a mechanical equipment and wet metallurgy process to recover noble metal such as nickel, lithium and cobalt. The recovery of precious metals is as high as 99%, and it is a good job for the production of new batteries. It is alleged that this process is friendly environment, because two contaminants such as heavy metals or volatile organic compounds are released into the atmosphere.

These two companies will recover 50,000 kilowatts of lithium-ion batteries in the next five years, equivalent to more than 1 million smartphone batteries. Jimmyyam, Vice President of East Asia Electric Power Department, said that cooperation in the circular economy is part of the company's 2030 sustainable development goals, including reduced environmental footprints and let our customers join. According to Bloombergnef, with the exacerbation of electrification and renewable energy transition, the demand for lithium-ion batteries will increase by 10 times in 2030.

SPGLOBAL predicts that from 2020 to 2025, the production of lithium-ion batteries will increase three times, which may cause gap between production and demand. Recycling is likely to shrink this gap. .
